Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Posted on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
