NBA Commissioner Silver 'Upset' by Recent Events
Speaking about the arrests for the first time, NBA commissioner Silver stated he was "very upset" by the incidents of the past few days.
"Nothing is more critical to the NBA and its fans than the fairness of the game," he informed Amazon Prime. "Therefore I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."
Silver further mentioned an league probe into the player's conduct in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he played for the Charlotte Hornets against the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.
"We were informed by the regulators and the gambling firms," he continued.
"We investigated that situation and were very transparent about it. And while there was that aberrational betting, we, honestly, found no evidence.
"The federal government has legal authority... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the league office is unable to.
"Therefore, we've been cooperating since then. Naturally, what they announced yesterday was an indictment.
"Moreover two and a half years after, he has not been found guilty of any offense, in fairness to Rozier.
"Obviously, it appears unfavorable, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a compromise here between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
